My understanding is the standalone trans controller (or diesel controller) runs a 4L80E or 4L60E trans. These require shift solenoid activation, TCC, and Line pressure control. They also monitor torque, fluid temp and a couple other things. Check out http://www.gmpowertrain.com/ and you can download spec sheets for the transmissions.
